What is RSS and how does it work?

RSS is a family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated works, such as blog entries or news headlines from several different websites.

It allows individuals to easily stay informed on subjects of interest to them by gathering the latest content from all their favourite sites. Users of RSS feeds, save time and trouble visiting all these sites individually. It also ensures privacy, as it eliminates the need to join each sites email newsletter.

Traditionally, and most often, WordPress is used as the foundation on which to build, and publish a blog to display to the world. Some of the most infamous blogs on the planet use WordPress to convey their message, such as The New York Times and CNN.

Digg: What is it and how does it work?

Digg is a user driven social news website made for people to discover and share content from anywhere on the Internet, by submitting links and stories.
Like Reddit and Newsvine, Digg users exercise editorial power and collectively determine the value of content.

Commenting on and voting stories up and down is the site’s cornerstone feature, called ‘digging’ and ‘burying’. Many stories are submitted every day, but only the most ‘dugg’ stories appear on the front page.

What is Twitter and how does it work?

What do Barack Obama, Stephen Fry and Britney Spears all have in common? They are all Twitter users.

Cyberspace is an ever changing world, and just as you’re getting to grips with Myspace and Facebook, a new phenomenon makes it’s big entrance.

For a craze that seems to have emerged from nowhere, Twitter has taken the world by storm, and proved particularly popular with celebrities, allowing them to frequently update their fans on their minute, by minute, hour, by hour activities.

But despite hearing about it in the news every week, a lot of us are not quite sure what Twitter is, and why it is so damn indispensable.
